High Peaks Series: Lone Mountain IPA

Lone Mountain IPA is part of our High Peaks series, featuring Nelson Sauvin & Citra. It is a hazy IPA with massive aromas of deep citrus, white grape, and earthy stone fruit harmoniously underscored by a hint of dank resin. Marked by a cloud-like mouthfeel, it finishes with a gentle bitterness.

Style & Concept
Lone Mountain IPA is an adventurous India Pale Ale inspired by the rugged terrain of the Catskills. It is crafted to reflect the spirit of wild trails, steep climbs, and expansive mountain views. Its bold, yet balanced, expressive without being overbearing.

Appearance
A luminous golden‐amber hue with a slight haze, crowned by a crisp off‐white head that lingers, leaving a delicate lace on the glass. The pour invites you in, bright enough to catch the light, hinting at hop character even before you smell it.

Aroma & Flavour Profile

  • Aroma: Expect an upfront burst of citrus zest (grapefruit, tangerine) balanced by tropical top notes: pineapple, ripe mango, and a subtle resinous pine undertone.
  • Palate: The taste starts with juicy citrus and tropical fruit, then transitions into hop resin and light pine. A solid malt backbone supports the hops, offering biscuit or lightly toasted grain notes to round out the flavour.
  • Finish: Clean, but spirited the bitterness climbs, but remains controlled, giving a crisp, slightly dry exit that invites the next sip.

Mouthfeel & Drinkability
Medium-bodied, with enough structure to carry the hop intensity, yet smooth enough for repeated sipping. The carbonation is moderate enough lift to keep things lively but not sharp. The finish stays pleasant, making this IPA suitable for a session or as a satisfying stop in the middle of the day.

Why It Works & Stand-Out Traits

  • This IPA captures the wilderness of the Catskill region with bold hops, natural ingredients, and that outdoor energy.
  • It strikes a thoughtful balance: expressive hop character without tipping into full “hop-bomb” territory.
  • Great for drinkers who appreciate craft IPAs that are both flavourful and approachable.

Serving & Pairing Suggestions

  • Serve cold (around 45–50 °F / 7–10 °C) in a tulip or standard IPA glass to highlight aroma and flavour.
  • Food pairings:
    • Grilled sausages, herb-seasoned pork chops, or BBQ brisket—hop resin works nicely with charred meat.
    • Spicy dishes—think Thai green curry or chipotle chicken tacos—where the citrus/top-hop notes help cut through heat.
    • Sharp or semi‐soft cheeses such as aged cheddar or manchego, which complement the hop bitterness and malt malt backbone.
    • On its own, this beer is a pleasure—great for reading on the porch, watching the sunset, or sharing after a hike.
